festival of country gardens

If you are near the south west of Western Australia on the weekend of Thursday 4th to Sunday 7th November, and have even a vague interest in gardens, flowers or poking around behind stranger's sheds, pack a picnic and sunhat and join the Festival of Country Gardens.  19 gardens are open for inspection, along with sundowner events, workshops and excursions.  In between sniffing the roses and discovering the delights of compost, there are antique shops to peruse, local produce to savour and scenic country roads to meander.

I do love a spot of garden art, and the vast grounds at Holberry House in Nannup are home to a Sculpture Walk featuring work by West Australian artists, including a weatherproof compressed paper man by Perth sculptor Graham Hay.

Save the date and start dreaming about devonshire tea in the shade of a weeping willow...
